Welcome to Common Gunsense

I hope this blog will provoke some thoughtful reflection about the issue of guns and gun violence. I am passionate about the issue and would love to change some misperceptions and the culture of gun violence in America by sharing with readers words, photos, videos and clips from articles to promote common sense about gun issues. Many of you will agree with me- some will not. I am only one person but one among many who think it's time to do something about this national problem. The views expressed by me in this blog do not represent any group with which I am associated but are rather my own personal opinions and thoughts.

Packing heat run amok

Well, as predicted, the tea partiers, the gun rights folks and those who don't belong to either group but whose anger over the health care law has boiled over are going too far. In Washington state, one such person threatened the life of Senator Patty Murray. The most telling thing about this story for me was that the man was proud that he packed ( meaning he packed heat- aka- he carries a gun). What is the lesson for us all here? Watch out for those folks who are either carrying concealed guns or openly carrying their guns in protest of the government. This is not what the Founding Fathers envisioned when they added the Second Amendment to our Constitution. They were actually more worried about those from outside the country or maybe even vigilante groups from within, attacking the country. So they wanted individuals to be armed in case they should be called into action to protect the country and the government. So, how are we to deal with these folks who think the Second Amendment means that they can attack their own government with guns? Who will protect the rest of us who are not interested in packing heat from these crazy folks who have taken their rights to the extreme while ignoring their responsibilities?
